The snippet and your theme

What the script tag does on your site, and how to place the button yourself.

The script

The tag you paste into Settings → Code injection → Site header loads a small script from your site's address on SponsorPass. On every page it:

  1. fetches the service's public configuration for your site (which tiers are mapped, the button's label, the landing page's address);
  2. asks your own site who the visitor is, through Ghost's members endpoint, which only a script on your site may call;
  3. shows a floating Contribute button to a signed-in member of a mapped tier, and nothing to anyone else.

When a member presses the button, the script fetches the member's short-lived identity token from your site and posts it to SponsorPass, where the member lands signed in on the contributor dashboard. The token never appears in a URL. The script sets no cookies on your site and loads nothing from third parties.

Placing the button in a theme

Add data-enova-contribute to any link or button in your theme, for example in the navigation or a membership card:

<a href="#" data-enova-contribute hidden>Write for us</a>

The script fills it in: for an eligible member it becomes the contribute action; for anyone else it points to your landing page on SponsorPass, which shows the packages and the tier's signup link. Keep hidden on it so it only appears once the script has decided; with a placed element the floating button is not shown.

The landing page

https://<your name>.<our domain>/ lists your active packages and the direct signup links of the mapped tiers. It is public, and it is where contributors sign in by email if they cannot use the button.

Checking it is there

The service fetches your site's home page once a day and records when it last saw the snippet; the health panel shows it. If it has not seen the snippet three days after connecting, it tells you by email.
