Publishers
Requirements
Which Ghost sites can connect, and what you need on hand.
Your Ghost site
- Ghost 6. The service reads your site's version when it connects, refuses a site below Ghost 6, and re-reads the version at every health check.
- Self-hosted, or Ghost(Pro) on the Publisher plan or above. Ghost(Pro)'s Starter plan has no custom integrations, no Admin API and no webhooks, so it cannot connect; the service tells you so plainly if you try.
- Members switched on, with at least one tier your contributors will hold. The tier can be hidden from Portal.
- A site address on https for a live connection. During development a plain http address is accepted.
What you need on hand
| Item | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| An Admin API key | A custom integration you create in Ghost (Settings → Integrations → Add custom integration) | Every day-to-day call: drafts, posts, members, tags, webhooks, uploads |
| A staff access token (optional) | A dedicated Administrator account's profile in Ghost | Imported bylines (creating and suspending the Contributor users that sign contributions) and the analytics panel's referrers and page views, which Ghost answers to a staff token alone. See bylines and analytics |
| An email address for your workspace | Yours | You sign in with a link or a six-digit code sent to it; no password |
Seats on Ghost(Pro)
Contributor users and suspended users do not count toward a Ghost(Pro) staff limit, so imported bylines cost no seat. A dedicated Administrator account for the staff token does count as one seat.
