Takedown

How to report a contribution, what happens next, and how a contributor answers.

Draft

Draft pending professional review (see the Legal overview). Effective date: to be set at launch.

Reporting

Anyone can report a contribution published through the service by writing to the support address published on this site, or to the publisher directly. A report that we can act on names the post (its address), what is wrong (for example, which work it copies or which statement is false), who you are and how to reach you, and a statement that you believe the report is accurate. Reports about copyright should also say that you own the work or act for its owner.

What happens

  1. Within two business days we forward the report to the publisher, who controls the post, and tell you we did.
  2. The publisher decides whether to unpublish or edit the post; many will unpublish while they look into it. We record the publisher's action in the submission's history.
  3. We tell the contributor what was reported and give them the chance to answer.

We do not remove content from a publisher's site ourselves: the publisher publishes, and the publisher takes down.

Counter-notice

A contributor who believes the report is mistaken can answer through the same address with their name, contact details, the post concerned, why the report is wrong, and a statement that they accept the publisher's decision and the law of the publisher's place. We forward the answer to the publisher and to the reporter.

Repeat problems

A contributor whose contributions are taken down repeatedly for valid reasons can lose access to the site's packages at the publisher's decision; a publisher that repeatedly ignores valid reports can lose the service under the terms of service.
